THINGS ON FIRE is the one man freelance design studio of Chris Hood, spanning the disciplines of Graphic Design, Illustration & Printmaking, proudly based in Leeds, West Yorkshire.
Along with creating work for other people, Chris also spends his days making hand screen printed posters, art prints and gifts. He has something of a passion for continental supermarket graphics, the combination of ink and paper, the children's toy "Spirograph" and the films of Stanley Kubrick, all of which sometimes find their way into his work.
Projects
- No Title MagazineNo Title Magazine got in touch with me again to ask if I could create an illustration for the header and profile image of their facebook page. I of course accepted! The brief was left entirely open to my interpretation, and one of the challenges was creating two sections that could work alone and together as a whole.
- Press CoffeehousePress Coffehouse are a coffee subscription, curation and delivery service based in Yorkshire. I was asked to create a postcard to accompany all orders from them in March. The only stipulation in the brief was it obviously had to connect with coffee in some way. This in mind, I pursued the concept of creating an imagined columbian/south american street scene, full of the rich colour and vibrance of one of famous exporters of excellent coffee.
- NumbersA few of my friends moved into shiny, new houses recently, and to celebrate for them and give them a little house warming gift, I decided to create a house number for them which I would then burn into wood. This led to much fun and experimentation with creating custom numbers and lettering, the results of which you can see here. I hope to continue making these between client projects.
- LoltographyPhotographer Steven Clark commissioned me to create a new logo and identity for his photography business Loltography. Steven's client base ranges from taking photos at gigs, to special events and weddings, so something that didn't just fit into one category was needed. The solution came from suggesting the shape of a camera from the LOL of Loltography.
