ADVICE FROM JANE SCHERBAUM, DEPUTY HEAD OF DESIGN AT VICTORIA AND ALBERT MUSEUM

  • Jane Scherbaum
To celebrate International Women’s Day, we’re putting the spotlight on some of the most inspiring women in the creative industries on The Dots.

Over the rest of the week, we’ll be highlighting their work, thoughts on what it means to them to be in the creative industries, their inspirations, aspirations, iconic role models and sage words of advice.

Next up, we have Jane Scherbaum, Deputy Head of Design at Victoria and Albert Museum.
What does it mean to you to be female and in the creative industries?

I work in an industry which is based on creativity and innovation, where the spirit of collaboration and teamwork pervades. I have been very fortunate to work with a number of brilliant and inspiring female designers but there is more work to be done. There is still a notable imbalance in the high profile positions and amongst the design award juries and winners.

Do you have words of wisdom for other women looking to break into the industry?

Build your profile, your network and your portfolio. Never think ‘Why?’, ask yourself ‘Why not?’

Who is your all time female creative icon?

Louise Bourgeois
