This month, in celebration of Queer History Month, we are highlighting work from queer artists from the Dazed community. This week we take a look at work by London-based photographer Ciaran Stack, whose candid approach is driven by a desire to capture raw moments around queer, authentic identities in their prime.

The focus point of my practice is mainly collaborating with friends who have a drive in what they do, whether it be music, fashion or art. They inspire me to develop a concept that suits their body of work, which is always fun process. My other focus points are the London queer rave scene. The beauty of capturing a candid moment of the girls being their raw/authentic selves surrounded by love speaks more then anything.

Living in a warehouse surrounded by people in various creative subjects is something that makes me more driven. Since moving to London at the start of 2023, my work has expanded through the relationships I have made in the queer scene, making connections with people who have similar inspirations as myself. As someone from a small town in Ireland, I didn’t really have that connection to queer culture other then online. A lot of my recent work is usually in collaboration with people I feel most comfortable around, which is a very important to have as a developing artist.

My technique for taking photos is very loose. I don’t necessarily have a strict way of shooting. I still learn new things every time. There is something satisfying about not knowing what your are going to when you are in post production, which is why I like to be loose with the process of taking the photos. It’s more exciting I guess.

I tend to get a lot of my concepts/inspirations around the music I am listening during that time frame, some of recent is Arca (who is massive influence in my work) to more ambient artists like Chihei Hatakeyama.
