Merck – Ode to the Future

  • Paul Taggart

A musical collaboration to inspire the future

To mark its 350th anniversary, science and technology company, Merck celebrated with a very special collaboration. Teaming up with acclaimed sound artist, Mira Calix and six unborn babies – we gave life to a unique, musical experiment. Using ultrasound to capture the movements of each fetus, we turned the data into audio frequencies – which formed the basis for our Ode to the Future.

The film documents what's possible when curious minds from different fields collaborate, inviting audiences to visit a microsite to explore and share ideas for the future of science and tech.
Four of the six mums who–together with their unborn babies–helped define our Ode to the Future.
"We’re supposed to be at different ends of the spectrum – art and science. I think we’re completely connected." - Mira Calix
A homepage takeover on Politico.eu spread the campaign message to science and technology audiences.
