'Rubens and His Legacy' Late Event for the Royal Academy of Arts

  • Lorna Byrne
I was required to work as part of a small team to creatively produce an evening full of workshops and performances which would appeal to 16-25 year olds. In addition to using my creativity and knowledge of art history, I was also required to stick to a budget which meant considering the cost of everything involved in the planning of this event and considering the logistical coordination of the event. For example, no music was allowed in the gallery space which meant a rearrangement of plans by instead having the band perform in the foyer as guests arrive. Health and safety and security were also important factors which we had to contemplate, as well as advertising and marketing the event. This included creating an invite and vast advertising on social media and contacting schools and universities across London. The planning of the event began in January 2015, with the event taking place at the end of March. The aftermath of the event entailed a huge clean-up, a series of thank-yous and a debrief in which we discuss what was successful about the event and what could have been improved, which was incredibly useful for the future planning of events.
