From its foundation in 1768 the Royal Academy of Arts has provided a voice for art and artists. An independent charity led by eminent artists and architects—the Royal Academicians – the RA is as unique as it is inspirational. We were excited to help the RA with a campaign that would showcase Charles I private collection for the first time since the 17th century. This landmark exhibition brings together the astounding treasures that changed the taste of the nation. Another first for the RA was this opportunity to use moving media across London underground stations – taking over up to 38 screens at a single location. Our solution was to bring a contemporary twist to an established collection by adding levels and layers of movement, bold typography and vibrant block colour. Digital tech and multiple screens meant that we could get creative with timings and alignment to create moving paintings – that would capture the attention and imagination of discerning passers-by.
