About me
Rachel Long is a poet, facilitator and curator. She was awarded a Jerwood/Arvon Mentorship in 2015, and was mentored for one year by Caroline Bird. Her poems have featured in Magma, The Honest Ulsterman and The London Magazine. She is assistant tutor to Jacob Sam La-Rose on the Barbican Young Poets programme, and leads Octavia, a poetry collective for women of colour at Southbank Centre, London. Octavia have featured in The Guardian and on BBC World Service, they've run poetry workshops for The Serpentine Galleries and at Oxford University, and they've performed at Women of the World and The London Literature Festival. Inspired by Octavia, Rachel has curated 'Telling Her Story', an open workshop series for women of colour, hosted and in partnership with Southbank Centre.

    Telling Her Story: Poetry Workshop series for women of colour at Southbank CentreInspired by Octavia and in partnership with Southbank Centre, Telling Her Story workshop series was set up in September 2016. Each month's session is curated to coincide with Southbank Centre's current festival or theme. Participants have the option of booking a single poetry workshop, to give poetry a try within a safe and exclusive space, or they can book the whole six-month term.
